It’s Monday and you know what that means!!! It’s time to talk about what I read last week and what I hope to read next! Last week was a pretty good reading week for me, I finished 3 books. 🥳
– On The Come Up by Angie Thomas ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
– The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
– A Curse so Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wow, I read some fantastic books last week! The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell was a gothic horror novel. A truly amazing classic haunted house story with a creepy twist….. wooden companions. There was a great creep factor to this story, and the characters were perfect! This is a great scary story for people who don’t like to be really scared! I highly recommend and don’t want to say much because I don’t want to give it all away.
On The Come Up by Angie Thomas. Y’all she gone and done it again!!!! The Hate U Give, which was Angie’s debut novel, was a #1 bestseller and award winner as well as turned into a movie. I would be extremely surprised if On The Come Up does not follow in THUG’s footsteps!! Angie knows how to grab you right from the start, and man do you need to buckle your seatbelt because you’re about to go on a rollercoaster to the end of the book. I smiled, I cried, I got mad and sad and I devoured the book. You go girl! Angie you have big things coming and I can’t wait to see what you write next!!!!
Last, but definitely not least, the book that I have been dying to read for a while and received in my 1st Fairyloot book box….. A Curse so Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer. This is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, and Brigid definitely made it her own. My mind is still reeling with the details of this story. The character development was strong, the story moved along so well and boy did I loathe the Enchantress!!! The sequel comes out January of 2020 and I don’t know how I will wait that long to see what happens in the Kingdom of Emberfall with what we’ve discovered. All I know is I hope Harper and Rhen get married and I am super excited to find out more about Grey!!!
So what’s next on the docket? Well, a few different genres!! I’ve got Adult Contemporary Romance, Sci-Fi/Alternate History, and YA Fantasy!!
– Josh + Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating by Christina Lauren (Adult Contemporary Romance)
– The Three Body Problem by Cixin Liu (Sci-fi/Alternate History)
– A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas (YA Fantasy and another Beauty and the Beast retelling)
I like to shake up the genres that I’m reading so I don’t get overloaded from reading too much of one. I do mainly read Fantasy, but like to mix it up with Sci-fi and Horror mostly. It’s good to expand your horizons because you never know what you’ll end up liking.
Time for me to go stick my nose in a book! Happy Reading! 🤓🍻
